BMW electric and plug-in hybrid service
BMW electric vehicles remove some conventional service items while adding high-voltage architecture, battery thermal management, charging electronics and complex control networks. Proper EV service requires both electrical safety and an understanding of the conventional chassis systems that remain.
What still needs servicing on an electric BMW?
Electric drive removes engine oil, spark plugs and conventional exhaust servicing, but the vehicle still has brakes, brake fluid, tyres, wheel alignment, suspension, cabin filtration, air conditioning, 12V electrical systems and multiple cooling circuits. Regenerative braking can also change how friction brakes wear and corrode.
High-voltage systems
High-voltage work requires correct isolation and safety procedures. Charging, battery and power-electronics faults are approached from the vehicle data and the exact system involved.
Conventional vehicle systems
Tyre wear, wheel alignment, bushes, dampers, brakes and HVAC remain important to safety, efficiency and comfort, and can be inspected independently of the high-voltage system.

Explore model →Can you service the conventional parts of a BMW i?
Yes. Brakes, tyres, suspension, cabin filters, 12V systems and applicable cooling circuits still require inspection and maintenance.
Do you work on high-voltage BMW systems?
High-voltage related work is approached with appropriate isolation and safety procedures, with the scope determined by the exact fault and vehicle.
Can charging faults be diagnosed?
Yes. Charging concerns can involve the vehicle, 12V supply, control electronics, charge-port hardware or external charging equipment.
Do EV brakes still need servicing?
Yes. Regenerative braking can reduce friction-brake use, but corrosion, fluid condition, pad movement and rotor condition still need inspection.
